GED
The next GED session will be a six-week class beginning September 9th, 2013. The test following that session will be given in McCall on October 24th and 25th, 2013. Candidates may take the test whether or not they have taken the class, if they register through me before the test dates. The GED class is free. The school pays testing fees for everybody who attends regularly, and the school provides study guides for use during class. The class  meets every weekday morning that school is in session from April 22nd through May 10th, from 8:00-9:30. Click on the Counseling tab on the high school webpage for more information.
PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS
We have completed addressing the Common Core standards for probability and statistics.  In the final quarter of the school year we are focusing on reinforcing the concepts and principles we have learned through hands-on projects.  Students are currently working through a project involving M&Ms.  In this inquiry lab, groups of students design their own statistical analysis of the candies, and generate questions of probability to answer in the study.  The project requires data collection and the use of Microsoft Excel to perform statistical calculations, analyze graphs, and derive probabilities from the data they collect.
GIFTED AND TALENTED
Every Monday after school we are hosting the Multiple Intelligences Academy (MIA) in my classroom, room 106 at the High School. This is an enrichment program that is designed for gifted and talented (GT) kids, but is available to all students in grades K-12. The objective of the MIA is to provide an open-ended, unstructured environment for kids to pursue their passions. Tables in the room are filled with activities that lead to higher-level thinking skills and inspire intellectual curiosity.
Pullout programs for GT students occur once per week at each of the two elementary school buildings and the middle school.  During the last 20-30 minutes of the day, these students meet together to engage in challenging activities from a variety of subject areas.
I am working with parents, teachers, and students to accommodate for the individual needs of the gifted and talented students in the district. Gifted and talented children may be defined as those who exhibit marked exceptional abilities in the areas of intellect, creativity, leadership, and thinking skills. They have a higher performance capability and require differentiated and/or accelerated curricula to meet their unique learning needs and abilities. Please contact me with any concerns you may have with your GT child.

Science - Math Fair

SCIENCE CLUB

The science/math fair for the spring semester was held on Friday, April 12 in the commons. These fairs are open to all K-12 students, home-schooled students, community members, and professional scientists. Our next science/math fair will occur during the fall semester of 2013.  Check the links on the right panel of this page for more information and ideas for projects.

The robotics team meets Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in room 106 at the high school. They competed successfully in the tournament at the University of Idaho in mid-February. The work now is focused on experimentation with motor repair and design, and ideas for summer projects.  Information on the robotics competition we are involved in may be found at the First Tech Challenge website. Go to usfirst.org, and follow the FTC link at the top of the page.
