Welcome to Barbara R. Morgan Elementary

Welcome to Barbara R. Morgan Elementary School!

We are a community of more than 300 students, their families and forty staff members. We work together to promote mutual success.  Our three school rules are simple, yet frame the work that we do with each other every day:  Take care of each other.  Take care of yourself.  Take care of this place.  The first school rule relates to our community service work.  Service to others is highly respected.  Our school has participated in many outreach programs over the past four years, including but not limited to:  Support for the winter special Olympics, raising funds to help the tsunami victims in Japan and collecting food for our local food bank.

In addition to developing a strong community, Morgan Elementary is also known for high levels of academic achievement.  During the 2011 – 2012 school year, not only did our school meet federal and state requirements under the “No Child Left Behind” regulations, but also 100% of our fifth graders were proficient or advanced on the state reading assessment.  Academic performance is valued and promoted, as it is foundational for future success at the middle and high school levels.

We are also proud of our many enrichment opportunities for students.  Morgan Elementary maintains an active seismometer which measures and detects the earth’s movements.  We have recorded data from as far away as Japan and as near as Lake Fork.  This information is uploaded to the geoscience department at Boise State University.   Our fourth grade students also participate in a Trout in the Classroom project, in which they raise trout from the egg stage and ultimately release the fish into local streams.  Our third graders are working on a project that eradicates knapweed using beetles.  And our fifth grade is continuing their long standing partnership with the McCall Outdoor Science School.   Finally, our entire school focuses attention on making choices that are respectful of the environment.  These choices include recycling and reducing consumption, in general.  Thanks to our “green team”, in the fall of 2012 we are looking forward to replacing plastic ware with silverware and using large milk containers and cups in the cafeteria, in lieu of disposable individual milk containers.

As you can see, there are many things we are proud of at Morgan Elementary and your participation and support are instrumental for our ongoing success.  We welcome volunteers and appreciate all that you do to support children in our schools.  For more information about ways to volunteer or support Morgan Elementary, please contact us at:  634-2219 or e-mail at jfoudy@mdsd.org.

Respectfully,
