We are excited to be one of two elementary schools serving the children of the McCall-Donnelly School District. Our doors opened in August 2008, with more than 300 students in our pre-school through fifth grade program.
We are fortunate to have an experienced and professional staff at Barbara R. Morgan Elementary School. A wide variety of programs are offered for our children. We provide a developmental pre-school (ages 3-5) for those who qualify. Screening is free. Our standard kindergarten program is a half day. Additionally, we offer a full-day kindergarten program which provides extended time for children who qualify. During this additional half-day program, children are pre-taught skills they will learn in their large group session. Some children participate in this extended day for as few as nine weeks, while others participate for the school year. A school-wide reading program provides differentiated instruction for students in grades 1 – 5. The reading team includes: classroom teachers, a reading specialist and trained paraprofessionals. Our special education team focuses on providing specialized instruction in the least restrictive environment and our Title 1 program is extensively coordinated with existing programs, serving students who meet a series of criteria. The McCall-Donnelly School District also employs an English Language Learner teacher, as well as a Gifted and Talented Education coordinator.
Beyond academic achievement, our school believes in cultivating a climate of community service. During the 2008-2009 school year, students and staff volunteered in support of the Winter Special Olympic Games in McCall. We also raised funds for other non-profit organizations, like “McPaws Animal Shelter.” Our students made quilts, baked cookies and played chess at a local assisted living residence. They also coordinated a weekly recycling program for the building and collected canned food and peanut butter for the local food bank. Our interest is in teaching children the benefits of sharing their time, treasure and talent with the community that has given them so much.
The Barbara Morgan Elementary staff believes in strong parental involvement. Last year volunteers contributed more than 3,000! Please call me at 634-2219 if you would like to volunteer to help our school, or if you would like to help with our Parent/Teacher Association (PTA).
