Fourth Quarter is Here! - Monday, April 01, 2013

Fourth quarter is here and moving right along already.  We will be concentrating the first part of this quarter on fluency in preparation for the Spring IRI.  We have learned loads of skills for attacking words, now we need to bring it all together to be able to read as quickly and smoothly as possible in order to better understand what we're reading.  Reading the same book or story several times is a great way to practice this.  Thanks for all the great support of your child's reading thus far this year...keep up the great work!

As the weather (hopefully) continues to get nice, we'll be spending more and more time outside with our final science investigations of Animals Two by Two, and Materials in Our World.  We will even be getting a box full of class "pets", you'll have to wait though to find out what exactly they are (and what amazing things they can do)!

Classroom Information

Expectations and Rules:

     - Be KIND to YOURSELF

     - Be KIND to OTHERS

     - Be KIND to this PLACE

The expectation in our classroom is to strive for excellence and quality.  As long as a student bears these ideas in mind, there is little else we can ask of them.

Grading Policy:

Y = Yes (student is meeting the requirements, averaging 80% success in assessed target areas)

I = Improving (student is working towards mastery, but needs additional support, averaging between 60-80% success)

N = No (student is not able to perform tasks, averaging 59% or less success)

Quarterly Report Card Requirements

(Kindergarten currently listed, Transitional First still in development)

Homework:

Transitional First  homework is limited to the weekly reading bag, and daily reading log packet (see back of log for homework),  Weekly Folders will be sent home on the second to last day of the week with completed work from throughout the week, notes from the school or teacher, and reading log/homework.  Please return Weekly Folders to school the following day (last day of the school week).  Reading logs are to be kept at home so you can record daily reading progress and then sent back in the Weekly Folder on Friday.  Reading Bags also need to come back on Friday, although we encourage your child to bring it back to school and exchange books daily!

Late Work/Make Up Policy:

If you know your child is going to absent ahead of time, please contact me at least 2 days prior to the absence so I can gather the needed materials for your child's absence.  Please return make-up work within a week of the absence.  Thank you .

Volunteer Procedure:

Please contact me if you are available to help volunteer.  We would love to have parents in on a daily basis for us to read to.
