Events

Students have had a great time the last few weeks 'dissecting' a variety of things.  We started out dissecting trout with the Fish and Game.  Students were able to identify the internal anatomy and discuss the functions of each organ.
The following week, thanks to Dr. Randy Norris, we dissected deer and elk eyes.  The students amazed him with their knowledge about the iris, pupil, optic nerve, and lens.   He taught us even more about the vitreous and the tapetum lucidum.  We had fun taking the eyes apart and putting them back together again.
Lastly, in order to celebrate the completion of ISATs this year, students used their earned free time to 'dissect' a variety of appliances.  The only rule:  You can't break anything.  The students had a good time working together to figure out how to take the appliances apart, using only the tools they were given.

Expectations

Upcoming Content:

Reading:  make inferences, sequence of events, make generalizations, connect and compare literature

Students have been given a poem about the counties in Idaho.  We are working on memorizing this poem in class, although significant independent work will most likely be needed as well.  Students are required to say the poem during the week of May 27-31 and will be given a grade.  Please encourage your child to practice!  You can find a copy of the poem on the right hand side of this page; just click on the picture.

Daily Homework:  Outside of school, each student is expected to read 20 minutes, practice spelling words for the week, and practice multiplication facts.

Originally from Grangeville, I attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Reading. In 2005, I moved to McCall to complete the requirements for my degree and never left! McCall is the perfect hub to raft, ski, play hockey, and camp-some of my favorite activities.  I recently completed my Masters in Counseling through Northwest Nazarene University.  I am excited to be a part of the 4th grade team this year and look forward to a great school year!
