There will be one more H1N1 school based vaccination clinic on February 17, 2010 (Wednesday) morning. The Central District Health Staff will be holding the clinic at all 4 schools in McCall to vaccinate any more kids and staff who want to but have not yet received the H1N1 vaccine. We will be using mostly flu mist but some injections will be available as well. Students who get the flu mist will be able immediately to return to their classrooms. There will be an observation period for those getting the H1N1 injections.
CDHD Boise will be sending the permission slips to each of the schools to get out to the students. We would like to get an estimate the week before (Approx Feb 9-10) of how many students and staff still would like to get vaccinated. At that time we may be able to better estimate approximate start times for each school. If you want to get the H1N1 vaccine, please fill out the immunization forms as they become available and turn them in to your school office.
We will plan to work out of the health office at each school or a reserved room at the high school and middle school.
Schedule would be as follows:
McCall DonnellyHigh School - 8am
Payette LakesMiddle School (after we finish with MDHS)
Barbara R Morgan ES (after we finish with PLMS)
Donnelly ES (after we finish with BMES)
Superintendent’s Message
When Governor Otter announced a 2% holdback for education in this year’s budget, it caused concern for districts across the state. Below is a brief explanation of the current status of the McCall-Donnelly School District and a few comments about next year’s budget.
Good News This Year
Given the unsteady nature of the economy, the district prepared a very conservative budget for this year. We also built in a contingency amount that would allow us to cover unexpected incidents such as utility rate increases, revenue holdbacks, and legal settlements. If there are no additional surprises and we adhere to our planned expenditures, the district will be able to cover the holdback without making program reductions this year.
Next Year
The economic downturn continues to impact the district. The preliminary projected enrollment for McCall-Donnelly School District shows a decrease of about 38 students or a 4% reduction. In addition to enrollment issues, the Governor is talking about implementing a 7%-10% reduction in funding. As state revenues decline, we will need to review all of our programs and spending with a critical eye. It will become increasingly important for us to evaluate the cost and benefits of everything we do. Solving the upcoming challenges will require productive conversations at the state and local level. We look forward to working with patrons and legislators to get through these difficult times.
